Andhra Minister’s Home Set On Fireplace Amid Violence Over Renaming District

A mob of indignant protesters in Andhra Pradesh’s Amalapuram city set state Transport Minister P Viswarup’s home on fireplace on Tuesday over proposed renaming of the newly-created Konaseema district as B R Ambedkar Konaseema district.

“It’s unlucky that over 20 police personnel sustained accidents within the incident. We’ll conduct an intensive investigation into the incident and convey the culprits to guide,” the state Residence Minister Taneti Vanitha mentioned.

Ms Vanitha alleged that some political events and anti-social parts apparently instigated the arson.

On April 4, the brand new Konaseema district was carved out of the erstwhile East Godavari.

Final week, the state authorities issued a preliminary notification in search of to rename Konaseema as B R Ambedkar Konaseema district and invited objections, if any, from the folks.

The Konaseema Sadhana Samiti objected to the proposed renaming of the district and wished the identify Konaseema retained.

The Samiti organised a protest on Tuesday and sought to submit a memorandum to the district Collector Himanshu Shukla in opposition to the renaming.

Police tried to foil the protest, which apparently infuriated the protesters and violence erupted.
