Former FIFA Referee Sumanta Ghosh Dies At 70 | Soccer Information

-based former FIFA referee Sumanta Ghosh, who officiated in pre-World Cup and pre-Olympic tournaments, died of extended sickness at his residence in Kolkata on Thursday. He was 70 and is survived by his spouse and two sons. “He was not maintaining properly for the previous few days, and he breathed his final round 3 am this morning,” a Bengal referee stated. Born on April 10, 1952, Ghosh grew to become a FIFA referee in 1990 and retired in 1997.

He officiated in pre-World Cup and pre- tournaments, AFC Membership Championships, SAFF Cup and the Jawaharlal Nehru Cup amongst others.

After retirement, Ghosh continued to be related to refereeing by turning into referees’ teacher and AIFF Match Commissioner.

“It’s actually unhappy to listen to that Sumanta-da isn’t any extra. He was a doyen of Indian refereeing and his invaluable contribution to the sport will at all times stay with us. I share the grief along with his household,” All Soccer Federation president Kalyan Chaubey stated.


“Sumanta Ghosh was a top-class referee, a discovered Teacher and Match Commissioner. The soccer fraternity will miss him. Might his soul relaxation in peace,” stated AIFF secretary basic Shaji Prabhakaran.
